Dear Guest, Thank you for stopping by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brevard. Please be assured UUCB welcomes all who come to us with an open mind and a compassionate heart. We embrace people from all backgrounds and commit ourselves to celebrating the diversity of those who seek our fellowship. Our vision is to cultivate a sanctuary for diverse beliefs, committed to providing peace and love, personal spiritual growth and service to the larger community. Ours is a non-creedal congregation. We require no statement of faith or public pledge to any creed. There are no tests to determine theological fitness. In Unitarian Universalism, the member selects the faith community rather than the faith community approving of the member. The responsibility does not rest solely with the new member however. By virtue of our previous declarations of relational intent with UUCB we covenant to embrace new members and ease their entry into our midst. Rather than a creed we covenant with one another. and inspired to bring our gifts of love and service to the altar of humanity. May we know once again that we are not isolated beings but connected, in mystery and miracle, to the universe, to this community and to each other. We hope you find the pages on this site helpful in learning a bit more about our 51 year old congregation and Unitarian Universalism in general. We publish our monthly newsletter, the Gallimaufry, on-line. If you are a first time visitor, you may want to begin with the UU Principles and Purpose page and of course we can't forget to give you directions to the church. If you'd like to see us in action, browse our photo gallery. We're also happy to provide 100 Questions That Non-Members Ask About Unitarian Universalism in .pdf format and a list of helpful Unitarian Universalist websites. These UU links will lead you to a wealth of information about our denomination. Worship is our central activity. Our minister, Rev. Dr. Gregory Wilson speaks on the first and third Sundays and hosts a minister's Saturday the day before the third Sunday. Rev. Ann Fuller leads services on the second Sunday of each month in which we include a public Invitation to Membership. The fourth Sunday is an opportunity for us to showcase guest speakers from our community. We believe Religious Exploration is a life-long endeavor. Therefore, "RE" is for all children and adults. The Sunday morning church school is the primary learning period for children. Adult education is accomplished across a broad spectrum of programming. Stop by the Upcoming Events section to discover the array of learning and social opportunities that await. Living our faith in human dignity and freedom by committing ourselves personally and as a congregation to social justice work is vital to our mission. Visit Social Action for details of recent and forth-coming events. Additionally, we host a special gifts collection on the 3rd Sunday of each month for the special needs of our community. In our Path to Membership process, prospective members of UUCB have the opportunity to meet with various church leaders to learn more about the church as a unique congregation. We also include an orientation program for non-UUs to learn more about Unitarian Universalism as a denomination and a way of life. For scheduling, please send an email to admin@uubrevard.com or call the church office at 321-725-6125. Thank you for visiting, we hope to see you on Meadowlane Ave. soon! |
