Religious Exploration for Children
Our Religious Exploration program for children and youth is an important part
of our church. We strive to provide a safe, nurturing and stimulating
environment for all participants. We honor and respect each child as a valued
individual with unique gifts to share.
 |
Our curriculum
for 2007-2008 is "What is Religion?" We operate with a
one-room school house set up, but are able to tailor the Sunday's
content to any age group depending upon the children present.
Religious
Exploration for Children is conducted during our 11:00 service. Children
stay with their caregivers for the beginning of the service and are
"sung on their way" after our Story for All Ages (approximately 11:15).
Adults with
children may certainly participate in our 10:00 Forum as we provide
child care from 10:00 a.m. - approximately 12:15 p.m. Caregivers are
expected to retrieve their children following the conclusion of our
worship service. If not participating in Forum, feel free to bring your
children around 10:30 to provide them with some free play time with
their friends before the service beings. It may give you a bit of a
breather too! |
Our program has a caring group of teachers. Our desire is to function as
leaders who provide an opportunity for the children to embark upon
self-discovery. We provide the foundation of religious community and Unitarian
Universalist values that the children may firmly stand upon as they grow and
explore.
We do not teach one truth as Unitarian Universalists have no professed creed.
We gently guide our children by allowing them to explore many truths while
establishing their Unitarian Universalist identity. We hope this exploration
allows them to find the spiritual path that is right for them – knowing they
are a welcome part of our Unitarian Universalist community.
Vision
The vision of the Unitarian
Universalist Church of Brevard Children's Religious Exploration program is to
provide a loving, safe environment where children learn respect for themselves,
for others and for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are all a
part. We strive to provide a comfortable, welcoming place for children of
all ages and their families. Where the spirit of friendship thrives in
pleasant, beautiful surroundings. A place where they can develop empathy
and the desire to help others; where they experience and develop tolerance of
differing beliefs, where they can learn about the myriad religious and spiritual
beliefs of humankind while developing their unique Unitarian Universalist
identity through learning and living UU principles.
Mission
Our mission is to provide opportunities for UUCB children to grow spiritually,
to develop a sense of personal and social responsibility and become
compassionate human beings living their lives in harmony with UU
principles. We will provide engaging religious education classes, family
activities, social interaction, social service and religious celebration.
UU
Principles and Purposes for Children
We believe . . .
-
That each and every person is important.
-
That all people should be treated fairly and kindly.
-
That we should accept one another and keep on learning together.
-
That each person must be free to search for what is true and right in
life.
-
That all persons should have a vote about the things that concern them.
-
In working for a peaceful, fair and free world.
-
In caring for our planet earth, the home we share with all living things.
Spiritual Growth for Adults
UUCB sponsors a variety of events designed to enrich the spiritual journey of
our members and friends. Included are the Adult Forum, evening
classes, Minister’s Weekend and a UU Orientation Program.
Our services include the chalice lighting ritual, music, readings and a
sermon or speech. We have the pleasure of hearing from a variety of ministers,
academics, and lay speakers as well as Rev. Wilson. Each service concludes with
an opportunity to engage the speaker in a congregational response.
UUCB has a regular schedule of social events, social action projects and
other opportunities to interact with fellow religious liberals interested in
serving the community in fellowship and fun. |
