Seminar: Economic Democracy

June 7, 2008

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Brevard is a multi-use facility available for special events or recurring meeting space. We have a sanctuary with permanent seating for approximately 80 in which we can add seating for 20-40 more. It is suitable for weddings, seminars, concerts and other presentations. Our kitchen can be used by outside caterers or accommodate the final preparation of your own food and drink. Our social hall seats approximately 50-60 depending upon table arrangement and is suitable for small to medium parties, banquets, receptions, etc. Other meeting spaces include a classroom with capacity for up to 40 and a library for up to 10. Special events at the church have held up to 200 utilizing all available space

Our facility has:

  • air conditioning
  • fully stocked kitchen
  • complimentary parking
  • inside and outside function areas
  • nursery and playground
  • handicap accessible
  • sound system in sanctuary

Our staff are familiar with wedding and party vendors in the local area and can assist with recommendations and event planning. Rental rates depend upon the length of time needed and which church amenities are required. A non-refundable deposit is required at contract to guarantee reservation of the date and time.

Non-members in need of ministerial services such as weddings or funerals should feel free to contact ann@brevardminister.com to inquire about availability of the church and the ministers' schedules.

Unaffiliated groups may rent our facilities for regular use provided their activities are not in conflict with Unitarian Universalist principles. At present a Jewish congregation and an Al-Anon support group regularly meet at UUCB. Anyone interested in scheduling meetings or events at the church should email Holger Pedersen for availability and rates.

TYPES OF CEREMONIES

RELIGIOUS CEREMONY: Typically more formal, but can be conducted informally as well. They include religious elements, rituals and/or traditions within a single denomination.

ECUMENICAL CEREMONY: Blends the religious elements, rituals and/or traditions from two or more denominations. Also referred to as multi-faith, inter-faith or interdenominational.

NON-DENOMINATIONAL CEREMONY: Conveys a religious tone but does not refer to the specific traditions of any particular denomination.

SPIRITUAL CEREMONY: Evokes a sacred or divine feeling. Spirituality is based on individual experience and therefore means different things to each of us. Inspiring and beautiful readings are included, but remain universal and are not necessarily connected with any particular religion.

CIVIL / SECULAR CEREMONY: Celebrates love and human need every bit as much as religious ceremonies but includes no religious elements, rituals or traditions. Secular invocations and poetry typically replace prayers and scripture readings.
